2019 SOLD 37x36" fabric wall hanging The energy from the sun is harnessed by chlorophyll in the cells of leaves. The function of the leaf is to capture and transform this energy to usable form for the plant itself and for all other life forms on our planet. The green layers in this piece are modeled upon the layers of cells that form the surface of leaves. These cells contain chlorophyll, arguably the most important molecule on earth for its role in releasing Oxygen from Carbon dioxide in the presence of sunlight. Because trees are large and cover acres of land with a filtered netting of leaves, they are absolutely essential in maintaining our subsistence on this planet. |
