Isabella Tiger Moth (Pyrrharctia isabella) is common in the USA and southern Canada. The adult moth often flies under our radar as a quietly coloured well behaved winged creature, leaving it to the larva, our beloved Woolly Bear, to take the limelight. I recall stories told that the relative size of the orange band in its fuzzy middle will predict the length of the upcoming winter.

The larva consumes many kinds of plants, and when ready to pupate, weaves a basket from its discarded hairs that protects it until ready to hatch.
