The Two-spotted Ladybug, Adalia bipunctata, is native to North America. Although this species’ patterns are highly variable, its most common form is red or orange with a single black spot on each wing cover. It is generally found on shrubs and trees, and as one of our many beneficial insects, preys mainly on aphids. Its current range includes the western United States and southwestern Canada, east to the coast spanning northern and northeastern United States through southern Canada, however this species is in decline throughout its range.
Our gentle native ladybugs are often confused with their invasive cousins from Asia, the ones that invade our homes in late fall.
