This tree is modeled after a huge native Burr Oak in Dundas Driving Park (Ontario, Canada). This tree is estimated to be over 300 years old. In this piece the mature tree sits deep inside its rings, surrounded by its distinctive leaves and acorns.
Laid in a circle, the leaves and acorns represent the seasonal and reproductive cycles of the tree. The varying width of the rings show easy and hard years. And the roots are prominent: trees reach deep into the ground, stretch high into the air, and spread wide across the surface, connecting all related organisms in their wide embrace.
