I grew up on a farm by the Thames River in Ontario. I spent many happy hours gazing into the murky water, occasionally catching sight of golden fishes, members of the carp family. These moments filled me with wonder. I have used the golden fish motif in many of my works. I call them blessings: unexpected joys that arise from nowhere.
