I love commissions! Below is a small sampling of pieces created over the years, large and small.
I approach a commission like a collaboration. We discuss all aspects of the project: purpose, location, colour, size, and budget. Photos of the site, if possible, are much appreciated. Clients are involved in all the decisions until a design is approved.

Our Niagara Escarpment area is defined by limestone rock cliffs. This piece was specially designed to fit a large wall in the dining room of a home in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Clients in Comox requested a wall hanging inspired by their favourite tree. Arbutus is a distinct West Coast tree that thrives near the ocean, undeterred by the salty earth. Included with these images are a photo of the tree and the pencil sketch that was approved.

A happy couple celebrated their anniversary by commissioning art inspired by a special maple on their woodlot. From one of their many great photos, we selected the one that best represented their vision. They requested the addition of flowering trilliums to reflect this springtime scene.

My client wished for a representation of her childhood home in Argentina. She sent a good number of photos that showed the landscape and vegetation, along with several of the house and her little dog. Lots of detail in this one!

For a client in Vancouver, I created a wall hanging for her son’s new home. She requested a woodland with birches and a stream.

The client requested a piece that would fit over her fireplace, inspired by a photo of a sunset taken from her cottage property in Northern Ontario.
A couple from Waterloo requested a specially shaped piece for over their spectacular fireplace, with the theme of the seven days of creation. All creatures, fungi and plants were to be included. Luckily I was able to visit the site and meet the clients before starting.
The peaked roof line was a defining factor in the design, and with some tweaking we landed on an idea that solved all the design challenges. They also purchased an existing piece, Nuit Blanche, for another wall in the room. Included is the approved pencil drawing.
Commissioned for the Hennepin Healthcare’s new Redleaf Center for Family Healing in Minneapolis, MN, this framed wall hanging was to symbolize nurturing, healing, and growth.

Dr Susie O’Brien requested an image for the cover of her book, What the World Might Look Like: Decolonial Stories of Resilience and Refusal. She provided the introductory chapter and we chatted about what she felt was important to feature in the image. The Hornet’s Nest became the right choice for the theme. I created this piece with machine stitched lines and fabric paint for a delicate appearance that would not interfere with the cover text.

This 40” round wall hanging was designed to fit the wall beneath a stairway in a home in Boston, MA. I incorporated many of the colours in the existing decor. Happy clients!
A most intriguing request: After my client’s husband passed away, she wished for a tribute to him, created from his 80+ collared shirts that they had collected on their travels. I made 19 pieces in all. The largest was for her own collection, and the others were to go to family, friends and clients. She specified that I was to use fabric from three particular shirts in each piece. Except for a few, she did not specify any particular theme. It was a glorious project, one of my favourites! Here are a few of them:
The challenge was to make a wall hanging depicting a local woodland scene for a client’s newly refinished space. At 60×60”, this is my largest piece in this style. Now hanging in its perfect home in Alaska.
