34" quilted wall hanging

Chinquapin Oak is native to the Carolinian forest, the most northern part of which stretches into SW Ontario. It loves limestone substrate and can be found in small groves along the Niagara Escarpment (including just a short walk away from my home!)

In this piece I have included Sumach, which often grows along with the Oak in stony outcroppings. The leaves have been dined upon by the larva of a small butterfly, in the Hairstreak family.
