Word Portraits from the Earth

Word Portraits from the Earth is a series of 27 stitched interpretations inspired by Living-language-land, a collection of specially chosen words from endangered and minority languages from all over the world. The words were researched and assembled by Philippa Bailey and Neville Gabie of the UK, in honour the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in 2021.

My part in this collaborative project was to create 'word portraits' that would engage emotions and light up curiosity about these beautiful, poetic words, many of which have no direct translation to English. They bring together themes I'm passionate about: our relationship with nature, love of words and language, and earth-based spirituality.
